State provides more information on vaccine plans

Though Stanford continues to await information on whether universities will play a role in COVID-19 vaccine administration beyond the healthcare setting, the State of California is providing more information about its vaccine plans overall.
In a news conference Monday, Gov. Gavin Newsom provided an overview of the next phases the state expects to use to determine vaccine allocation. The phases, which also are available on the state’s COVID-19 website, are still being refined by a state advisory committee but in general, the governor said, will likely include:
Phase 1A (current):
- Healthcare workers
- Long-term care residents
Phase 1B, Tier One:
- Individuals 75 and older
- Those at risk of exposure at work in education, childcare, emergency services, and food and agriculture
Phase 1B, Tier Two:
- Individuals 65 and older
- Those at risk of exposure at work in transportation and logistics; industrial, commercial and residential sectors; and critical manufacturing
- Congregate settings for homeless individuals and incarcerated individuals
Phase 1C:
- Individuals 50 and older
- Those aged 16-64 with an underlying health condition or disability
- Those at risk of exposure at work in water and waste management; defense, energy and chemical sectors; communications and IT; financial services; and government operations and community-based essential functions.
Some definitions and implementation details for the phases are still being discussed by the State. Stanford will continue to monitor for more information as decisions are made by federal, state and county governments.
