Temporary parking permit policy change

Categories: Campus, Policies

Until further notice, parking permits are not required to park in university-operated lots and garages. Department of Public Safety enforcement staff will no longer issue parking citations in permit parking areas, and commuters and residents will now be able to park in any ‘A,’ ‘C,’ resident, or shared commuter/resident space at Stanford’s main campus and Stanford Redwood City.

Parking restrictions in special zones, such as disabled parking, red zones, fire lanes, and special-permit-only spaces, will continue to be enforced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

This decision was made for a number of reasons, including an anticipated increase in parking demand for new hospital staff and patients at Stanford Hospital and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. The decision also provides some temporary financial relief for essential Stanford employees who need to commute to campus for their work.

Additionally, local public transit agencies, including Caltrain, have started to announce service adjustments in response to decreases in ridership and revenue. This decision supports staff who drive instead of taking transit or other modes.

Additional information about this change is available on the Stanford Transportation website.
